Fun Fact Friday

The theme for this Fun Fact Friday is about the Kingston Brothers series.

When I first started “plotting” out this series, they were going to a bit different. I have plotting in quotations because I don’t really plot. I get a general idea and sit down and see what happens.

So I knew their names, but Royce was going to be younger than he ended up, but only by a few years. You know Cillian? Our tatted up tattoo artist and painter? He was going to be a writer! He had a whole different vibe. His previous relationship was going to be delved into a little more and kind of have a love triangle vibe with someone who WASN’T Midge. Wanna know why? Midge was never supposed to get her own book. I didn’t plan for her and Cill to get together until I was almost done writing On the Rocks.

One of the brothers was going to be divorced, but I decided to change that. I’m pretty sure it was Elijah.

I always knew Elijah would have the student/teacher theme, and Merrick was always going to be gay, but his story changed a little. At first I was going to have his love interest have a job that put him on the road with him for a little while. They were still going to have a past together, but I decided I wanted him to be in his hometown when their story took place.

If you read Against the Rules, you might remember this little exchange between Merrick and Elijah. “Hey, man. I’m not judging you. You’re attracted to who you’re attracted to.” And that was just a little hint into his story.

Like I mentioned in the acknowledgments in On the Rocks, the town this takes place in was named after my late father. Stores like Nae’s Gourmet Coffee Shop, Flaky Vicki’s, The Teacup (and Doreen who owned it) and Victor’s specialty soda shop are all named after family members. Small characters were named after family members, too.

Stories the brothers told around the table are things that my kids have done. Well, not all of them. And some were some I did as a teen. Hunter was based on an old ex-boyfriend, who I’m glad is an ex. Haha!

As far as the other stories go, more and more kept being added. In Risking it All, you’ll see the name Chaparral. It’s the town Ali lives in, but it was actually the street me and my husband first lived together on. Box O Tacos was a place in my own hometown, but that was actually called Taco Box. And it was me who ate my cheese sticks the way Merrick did, and I always argued that their strawberry Mountain Dew was better than the strawberry Sierra Mist, though my husband would disagree.

Honestly, there’s so many stories that came from my real life I can’t even keep track.

Have any questions about these guys? The stories? Anything? Leave them below and I’ll answer!

When my brothers all but force me to go out with them the weekend before the school year begins, I donโ€™t expect anything more than a few drinks and some laughs.
What happens is better than I couldโ€™ve hoped for. I meet a strikingly beautiful woman whoโ€™s new in town. Our night starts with us laughing and drinking in the bar, moves to my bed, and ends with her disappearing into the night without any exchange of information.

Monday morning, she walks into my calculus class and knocks the breath from my lungs. My one-night stand is now my student.

Never one to cross the line and always one to play by the rules, I make sure to tell her nothing more can happen. But as time goes on, I start wanting to erase the line and throw the rule book out the window. Because even though itโ€™s against the rules to be with her, I feel like, with Nova, I can find happiness again. But she deserves more than becoming my dirty little secret.

If you haven’t read the first two books in the Kingston Brothers series, you can grab them now in Kindle Unlimited. However, each book can be read as a standalone.

On the Rocks
One taste will never be enough…

You learn a lot about people pouring their drinks and London is what I would consider a regular.
Like clockwork, sheโ€™s been coming into my bar twice a week for the last year.
Besides her name, I’ve learned that sheโ€™s witty, beautiful, and unfortunately… taken.

She’s in a relationship with a guy that I’m pretty sure doesn’t deserve her.
Respecting that is the only thing stopping me from figuring out the things I really want to know.
Things like, what her body feels like against mine, or how she tastes on my tongue.

But one evening, everything changes. London comes in and tells me that they broke up.
One drink leads to two, and she finally confesses that this attraction isn’t one sided.
Our slow burn is about to get blazing hot.

I wasn’t just looking for a one-night stand, not with a girl like her.
But next thing you know, the ex is back. He’s in my bar, sitting next to her.

We try to act like there isnโ€™t a connection between us.
Like our bodies werenโ€™t made for each other and we didnโ€™t set each other aflame with a single kiss.
Every time I look at her, I see the flash in her eyes that tell me sheโ€™s remembering it too.
Re-living every delicious second of our time spent together on top of this very bar.

The problem is now that I know what she tastes like, I want more.
On the rocks. Itโ€™s how London prefers her drinks, and the current state of her relationship.
And I’m about to shake things up, because Iโ€™ll be damned if I let her get away.
Truth or Dare
At a party with friends, after a couple of body shots and a risquรฉ game of Truth or Dare, lines are crossed between me and a long-time friend.

I dare you to touch me.
Where?
Your choice.

Sheโ€™s anti-relationships, and because Iโ€™m newly single, she believes sheโ€™s just a rebound. So, per her request, weโ€™re traversing a friends-with-benefits situation and keeping it a secret so things donโ€™t become awkward for everyone when this dies off.

A short-lived fling is all sheโ€™s expecting, but hereโ€™s a truth for you…

I never intended for this to be just a fling. And now itโ€™s time to prove to her that weโ€™re meant for each other. We always have been.
